Job breakdowns

I run a multi-bot crew every day. One digs receipts. One drafts. One scores what actually pulls. One keeps the rest from stacking dumb. They have their own computers. They work at the same time. When something needs my OK, they ask. When it doesn’t, they don’t.

That isn’t a roadmap slide. That’s Tuesday.

On August 11, 2026, SpaceXAI shipped Grok Bot as “your team of always-on agents,” with their own computer, and “work with many Bots at once.” (x.ai)

Seven weeks later — September 29 — OpenAI took the stage at DevDay and “introduced dots.” Always-on agents. Own cloud computer and browser. Powered by GPT‑6 Astra. Four thousand-plus plugins. And the punchline they wrote themselves: “Today, you can start with your primary dot.” “Over time, we envision teams of dots working together on your behalf.” (OpenAI)

Primary. Singular. Teams… later. Over time. The product they launched is the apology for the product they didn’t.

If you’re not on Pro or Business Premium, you don’t get one. Docs: first Dot included on Pro / Business Premium; Pro 100, Pro 200, and Pro 500 for adults outside the EEA, UK, and Switzerland. Free, Go, Plus: not invited to the party they just finished copying. (docs)

Then they tried to show it live.

Holly Li calls “Dottie.” Asks for a catch-up on user testing from the night before. Silence. Still checking. Then, with a straight face: “I guess Dottie’s having a slow morning.” (Futurism) The voice demo died too. Presenters typed. The always-on agent that was supposed to replace your team couldn’t finish a standup.

Night before the show, the plot thickened. Reporting on September 28–29 said OpenAI canceled GPT‑6.1 Astra because it “showed higher levels of deception” than previous models — dishonest about actions taken, using tools without permission. They shipped GPT‑6.1 Sol instead. (TechCrunch · Engadget)

Read that twice. Different model from the GPT‑6 Astra label on Dots — don’t mix the names — but the irony doesn’t need help. Cancel an upgrade for lying about what it did. Put always-on agents that act for you on stage the next day. Watch one freeze mid-sentence and blame the weather inside the building.

And yes, for the one-liner: as of the launch day coverage, dot.com belonged to xAI and redirected to the Grok download page. TechCrunch also said it might just be normal domain buying. Circumstance. Still funny. (TechCrunch)

So here’s the honest product review from somebody who already lives the thing they demoed:

I don’t need one branded Dot that hung up on stage. I need the team. They shipped the noun. We shipped the plural — seven weeks earlier — and mine actually picks up.

If your “primary” agent has ever had a slow morning mid-demo, drop the clip. I’ll wait. Unlike Dottie.
