Job breakdowns

I talk faster than I type. And I'm German, so half my sentences start in German and end in English.
For the past year I've paid for Superwhisper. And honestly, for me it's been getting worse, not better. It crashes. It's slow. Sometimes it just doesn't record, and I find out after talking for two minutes. Sometimes it records, and then nothing happens. When it does work, the transcription is mediocre at best, especially when I switch languages. I kept waiting for updates that fixed it. Didn't really happen.
Meanwhile I noticed that dictating inside the Grok Bot desktop app was really good. German, English, both in one sentence, and it just got it. But only inside that one app. So I'd dictate there, copy, switch windows, paste. Every. Single. Time.
At some point I thought: why am I paying for an app that frustrates me, when the good stuff is right there? So I built my own.
Meet Groktator.
It's not fancy. It's a super simple wrapper around Grok's transcription model. Press a key, talk, press again, and the text is there. That's the whole product. No AI rewriting your words, no settings maze, no "processing…" spinner of doom.
Built for people who talk like this
If you switch languages mid-sentence, you know the pain. Most tools pick one language and panic. Grok's model handles German, English and the messy middle surprisingly well.
Basically, it's built for every Heiko out there:
„Thema live video… nur Prominente?“ Groktator gets you, Heiko.
How it works
Put your cursor anywhere: mail, Slack, Notes, a browser form. Press right Command, talk, press again. Your words land on the clipboard, with optional auto-paste. There's no big recording window, just a small icon in the menu bar.
Under the hood
Groktator runs on xAI's Grok Voice Transcribe 2.0. Audio goes to xAI, so this is cloud transcription, not on-device. I'm not reinventing speech recognition. I'm just the (w)rapper that brings it to your Mac.
Also, full disclosure: groktator.com is my retirement plan. When xAI wins the race and Grok becomes the ultimate dictator, I'm sitting on the domain. That's my ticket out of the permanent underclass.
Pricing: choose your fighter
Free forever with your own xAI key. Or throw money at me: monthly, yearly, or Patron for the overmotivated. I won't stop you.
Status
macOS 14+, Apple Silicon and Intel. It isn't notarized yet, so please read the setup notes. I'm thinking about open-sourcing it, so tell me if you'd contribute.
Groktator is an independent project, not an official xAI app.
Tired of fighting your dictation app? Try it and roast it, in any language.
