Starting a company used to have a fixed cost before it made a single dollar: a founder needed to fill a dozen roles to open the doors- engineering, sales, support, research, finance, content. Most solo founders either paid for all of it or did all of it themselves at 2 in the morning.
That floor moved this year. 2 tools now cover ground that used to take a full team: Claude Code builds and maintains the product through 5 specialized subagents, and Grok Bot runs the business through 10 more. 15 agents total, 1 founder directing all of them.

Part 1: Claude Code and its 5 subagents
-
Install it: npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code. Under 2 minutes.
-
cd into the project folder and create .claude/agents/. Each file in there defines 1 subagent: a name, a 1-line description of when to use it, and which tools it can touch. These are 5 short markdown files, not code.
-
The 5 to start with: Backend (owns the API and the database schema), Frontend (owns the UI, never touches the database directly), Test-Runner (writes and runs tests, blocks a merge if they fail), DevOps (owns the deploy pipeline and the CI config), Code-Reviewer (reads every diff before it merges, catches what the others missed).
-
Brief the main session, not each subagent by hand: "Build a Next.js SaaS starter with Stripe billing and a dashboard behind login. Use the backend and frontend subagents for their parts, have test-runner write tests before anything merges, have code-reviewer check the diff." Claude Code routes the work itself.
-
Run claude mcp add to connect GitHub and Slack, and drop a CLAUDE.md file in the project root with the house rules, so every subagent starts already knowing them. Put a cron entry on Claude -p "check yesterday's error logs and open an issue for anything new" so the team checks itself every morning.

Part 2: Grok Bot and its 10 specialists
-
Get access: about $200 a month through Cursor Ultra, about $300 direct through SuperGrok Heavy. Go to x .ai/bot, download the app, sign in.
-
Settings, then Plugins. Connect Gmail, Slack, Notion, and the CRM once. Every bot after this shares the connections.
-
Build the Chief of Staff first, alone. Charter: "Read the inbox and shared docs every morning. Tell me the 3 tasks that would move revenue fastest this week. Never send anything without my approval."
-
Once it proves 1 task by hand, add the roster, 1 bot at a time, each named like a job: Sales Rep (outreach and follow-up, every message a labeled draft), Support Lead (first response on tickets, escalates anything angry or technical), Research Analyst (market and competitor scans, sources and dates on every claim), Content Writer (drafts posts and docs, never publishes alone), Social Media Manager (schedules and reports engagement, never posts alone), Bookkeeper (reconciles transactions, flags anything unusual), Customer Success (checks in on existing accounts, catches churn early), Partnerships Lead (finds and drafts outreach to potential partners), Data Analyst (turns raw numbers into a weekly summary), Ops Coordinator (tracks subscriptions, renewals, and vendor invoices).
-
The same 2 rules in every charter: act alone on anything reversible in under a minute; wait for a yes on anything that sends, spends, publishes, or deletes.

Two subscriptions, one each. Claude Code runs on Claude Pro at $20 a month, or Claude Max at $100 or $200 for heavier use. Grok Bot access runs about $200 a month through Cursor Ultra, or about $300 direct through SuperGrok Heavy. The full stack lands between $220 and $500 a month, less than a single week of one junior hire's salary in most markets.

4 weeks to 15 agents
Week 1: Backend, Frontend, and Test-Runner ship a working product. 3 agents.
Week 2: DevOps and Code-Reviewer join the technical side. The Chief of Staff comes online and clears its first task. 6 agents.
Week 3: Sales Rep, Support Lead, Research Analyst, Content Writer, and Social Media Manager join, drafting under human review. 11 agents.
Week 4: Bookkeeper, Customer Success, Partnerships Lead, and Data Analyst finish the roster. Every agent runs on a schedule. The founder reads 1 weekly summary. 15 agents.

The team was never the missing piece. 15 agents who don't sleep were.
